Hopp Ground Garden Club of Bedford

Charlotte Spiers
139 Oliver Rd.
Bedford, NY 10506
234-3626

In 1975, "We formed to conserve our natural heritage, add to the town's beauty through plantings and to increase our own horticultural knowledge," this group states. For membership, one must be recommended by an active HGGC member in good standing, attend meetings, have a personal interest in gardening and a willingness to hold office, and share in the work of the club. A yearlong provisional program must be completed before new members are accepted as active members. Business meetings are held once a month in local buildings, usually the Bedford Presbyterian Church, from September to May. They make other pertinent announcements in a monthly newsletter, The Hopp Vine. Workshops and mini-Iectures are given throughout the year. Recently the group has planted one of the Courtyard Gardens at the John Jay Homestead and also designed a garden for the Guiding Eyes For The Blind organization in Yorktown Heights.
